I Have a Confession to Make
I’m not a pastor. I don’t have my own church.
I’m not a Christian author. I don’t have my own book.
I’m not a Christian publisher. I don’t have my own audience.
Now, you’re probably thinking…
Who is this guy then and why the heck does he think he’s qualified to be doing this?
First of all, my friend, God qualified me when He made me… just sayin’, lol!
In all seriousness though, that last statement is 100% true. That’s the only qualification I need.
But, to make you feel better, I’ll share a very brief version of my story…
Who is Duston McGroarty and Why Should YOU Care?
I’ve been a full time digital marketer since 2010.
What’s a digital marketer?
Here’s what the Digital Marketing Institute says:
“A digital marketer is responsible for using a variety of digital channels to generate leads and build brand awareness.”
So, in its simplest form, my specialty is running online advertisements.
In 2010, I started working with my dad in his online business, BackyardGrowers.com, where we teach people how to start their own backyard nursery.
We’ve had people in over 80 different countries go through our backyard grower training.
We’ve also been featured on several mainstream news channels…
…in many different colleges and universities across the country…
…and TONS of other popular sites including:
I’ve since taken that business over from my dad so he can “slow down a bit”.
Here's Where the Story Takes a Turn for the Worse
I was doing pretty well for myself financially.
(Notice the absence of God in that last statement. More about that in a sec.)
Some might’ve even said I was “living high on the hog”.
Until one day it all came crashing down on me.
I went from a solid 6-figures a year to barely making a thousand or two a month.
We were way behind on our mortgage.
My truck got repossessed.
Our utility bills were ALL late.
Our car insurance policy had lapsed so we were all driving uninsured.
My wife’s car was just hours away from being repossessed.
And the electric company said we had two days to pay our bill or they were cutting us off.
It Was a HUGE Wake-Up Call from the Almighty
He knew it was exactly what I needed at that exact time in my life.
It was a massive reality check. A spiritual reality check.
It was a turning point in my life and it made me realize something…
Everything I had…
Everything I thought I had accomplished myself…
Really had nothing to do with me at all.
It was all God.
And it was time for me to truly understand that and to acknowledge Him.
That’s why you’re reading this letter today.
Over these past few months, I was working with a Christian company helping them with their digital marketing.
Last week, they offered me a 1-year contract to work with them full time and a pretty good paycheck to go along with it.
I Turned It Down
Here’s why:
God has other plans for me.
He knows with my skillset and the experience I have as a digital marketer…
I have the ability to the share The Gospel with MILLIONS of people around the world…
With just a few clicks of the mouse and make a much bigger impact.
So, I’ve accepted God’s Mission for me.
It’s a very clear mission:
To Grow HIS Kingdom
And that’s where YOU come in.
